RACE-DAY BIKE CHECK

A repeatable inspection helps catch common mechanical problems before practice. When something is damaged, uncertain, or beyond a simple adjustment, stop and involve a qualified bicycle mechanic.

01

Front to back

Check axle security, wheel seating, tire condition and pressure, steering alignment, bar and stem security, headset play, frame and fork condition, crank and pedal security, chain condition, rear wheel, and seat security.

02

Function check

Lift and rotate each wheel to look for rubbing or damage. Apply the brake and confirm predictable operation. Turn the bars and rotate the cranks while listening and feeling for unusual movement.

03

Remove track hazards

Confirm that prohibited or unnecessary accessories such as pegs or kickstands are removed when required by the track. Secure loose clothing, laces, straps, and equipment.

04

After riding

Recheck after a crash, hard landing, transport, or any new noise or handling change. Do not send a rider back onto the track until the cause is understood.
