BMX Racing 101

Gates, straights, turns, motos, and mains.

Open guideClose guide →

Riders are grouped into motos. Each moto begins at the starting gate, continues over the track’s straights and turns, and finishes at the scoring line. Results determine who advances to later rounds and the main event.

Choosing a Bike

Start with fit—not price, weight, or what another rider owns.

Open guideClose guide →

A well-fitting BMX race bike helps a rider feel balanced and confident. Rider height, inseam, reach, experience, and strength all matter. Use the Bike & Gear guide and ask a coach before making a major purchase.
